Why ...
GRE test prep courses that are offered by the more well-known test preparation companies
are priced in excess of several thousand dollars. I myself have not taken one of
these courses, but I somehow fail to fathom that such courses are really that good,
least of all thousands of dollars good! A lesson plan, practice questions, a few
moments of face-to-face instructor time. Thousands of dollars? I doubt it.
Assuming that such test prep courses really are worth-while, charging exorbitant
tuition places wealthy students at a clear advantage, because it is only the wealthy
student who can afford such high tuition. This is hardly fair, wouldn't you agree?
Furthermore, if education, and especially access to higher education, is the way
by which students gain exposure to the more challenging problems facing us today,
and if it can be argued that higher education is what enables many students to gain
the experience and insight to tackle such problems, then what does that say about
these test prep companies that charge thousands of dollars for their test prep courses?
In addition, many of these test prep companies claim to have found the secrets that
will enable you to score high on the GRE -- but not surprising such secrets will
only be provided if you enroll in their course. Secrets? Spells? Potions? Does that
sound familiar? The process of elimination, working 'backwards' to arrive at the
answer, and knowing some of the more standard math formulas are hardly secrets,
but rather are worthwhile tools and methods which should have been learned in elementary
school and beyond.
Luckily, there are alternatives to such high-priced test prep courses. Your public
library most likely has several GRE test prep workbooks available, while MyGRETutor.com
and a rare few other websites offer similar online resources; utilized collectively,
these few websites I hope offer a product that is as good, if not better, than some
of the high priced GRE test prep courses that we've all seen advertised.
So, who are we? Rather? We are a group of people trying to see if we really can
make a difference. More importantly, we believe that education is something precious,
and hope that us offering MyGRETutor.com will enable more students to become familiar
and competent with the GRE. If only one student finds MyGRETutor.com useful, then
great, mission accomplished. Want to know more? Please send a comment or question
